What is the ideal charging station to serve my customers?
There are two categories of public EV charging stations, commercial-grade Level 2 and DC fast charging stations. A commercial-grade Level 2 charger is most likely going to be the best solution for establishments where a customer will be on-site anywhere from 45-min to two hours. DC fast charging stations are ideal for drivers that are in-transit and need to re-charge quickly.

How long does it take to re-charge an EV?
The time it takes to recharge an electric vehicle can vary greatly based on several factors including the temperature and capacity of the battery in the electric vehicle, the state of the battery’s charge and the power output of the charging station.
With the FLO Ultra™ fast charger, drivers can recharge up to 120km (75mi) in as little as 10 minutes***.
Commercial grade Level 2 chargers that support a power output of 19.2 kW can deliver up to 125km (77mi) of range in 1-2 hours****, again depending on the type of electric vehicle.
***Recharge time and added range are dependent on EV and station configuration
****Level 2 stations offer energy transfer speeds up to 19.2kW (80 amps) which can recharge an average EV from 50-80% within 2-4 hours – based on an average of current market EV models. Recharge time may vary depending on make and model, charger energy transfer speed, temperature, and battery capabilities.
How much space is required for installing EV charging stations?
When deploying EV charging stations, some important things to consider include:
- The physical size and configuration options of the charging station.
- Will there need to be additional electrical equipment required to support the chargers?

How much power is required to install EV charging infrastructure?
The power required to install EV charging stations will be directly correlated to the total maximum output of the chargers. For example, when installing a 19.2kW Level 2 charger, you will need approximately 20-25 kVA when allowing for safety buffers. In similar fashion, a 320-kW station will likely require 350-400 kVA service to operate.
The amount of power needed for installing EV chargers at a site can be calculated using the following:
Total power = (number of stations * input power) / (buffer threshold)
