Distance to Thornbury from:
Welcome to Grey County – from beaches to boating, fishing to skiing and snowboarding, waterfalls to lush forests, hiking and biking trails, incredible restaurants and local produce, the region has been a four-season destination for decades.
On the shores of Georgian Bay, the vibrant town of Thornbury is close to the ever popular – Blue Mountains and Collingwood – while maintaining its small-town charm.
It also happens to be the perfect place to charge your electric vehicle (EV) because there are so many things to do while charging – there truly is something for everyone.
There are two FLO charging stations located at Thornbury Harbour at 44 Bruce Street North, or another two stations just across the Beaver River at The Blue Mountains Town Hall at 32 Mill Street.
Both locations are within walking distance to trails, beaches, a vibrant main street lined with restaurants and cafes, bakeries, acclaimed art galleries, studios and artisan shops.
From the charging station on Mill Street, you can walk across one of the last surviving wooden trestle bridges dating back to 1870!
Known as one of the prettiest views on Georgian Bay, Little River Beach Park is a hop skip and a jump from the Harbour charging location.
With washroom facilities, accessible beach access, picnic tables and bench seating near the parking lot – when we visited, there were people of all ages gathered.
The benches were a popular spot for seniors, while families played in the sand on the pebble beach and swam in the bay. The teens chose to jump off the nearby Thornbury pier as beachgoers enjoyed the spectacle.
There really is something for everyone (regardless of how long you want to charge). If you’re feeling like a bit of a hike, you can hit the Thornbury stretch of the Georgian Trail (a 34km trail connecting Meaford to Collingwood), or meander along the Beaver River Trail.
Thornbury has an extraordinary number of restaurants and café’s – offering everything from coffee and baked goods to frozen treats and wood-fired pizza, a craft cider and brew company, a cheese shop and a wine bar serving locally inspired fare.
An autumn trip to the region for fresh picked apples and fall colours is a must. The apple picking industry really began in Thornbury. And, with close to 8,000 acres of apple orchards running along the shores of Georgian Bay, there are plenty of places to satisfy your apple pie and cider cravings. Until then, you can start by planning your route along the Apple Pie Trail using the FLO app.
