Where EV Charging Meets the Ice: FLO’s Chargers Provide Power in the Harshest Climates

Durable charging stations keep drivers charged up in Alaska, Yukon, and now, the Northwest Territories

QUEBEC CITY –FLO, a leading North American electric vehicle (EV) charging company and a smart charging solutions provider and a trailblazer in cold weather charging, further expanded its network into some of the coldest climates on earth with the installation of two DC fast chargers in Yellowknife, NT, Canada. The stations will join other FLO installations as some of the northernmost public EV chargers available for use in North America.

“We build our chargers with reliability and durability first in mind, designing them to withstand extreme weather events and the freezing temperatures residents encounter in places like Alaska and the Northwest Territories,” said Louis Tremblay, FLO President and CEO. “These installations underscore FLO’s commitment to reaching all EV drivers in North America, no matter the remoteness of their location or intensity of weather conditions.”

FLO operates charging stations throughout the United States and Canada that routinely withstand extremely cold climates, including stations in Fairbanks and Cantwell in Alaska and Dawson and Mayo in Yukon. The Yellowknife stations were installed by Northland Utilities (Yellowknife)

The Level 3 SmartDC 100-kW charging stations will be open 24 hours a day and capable of fully charging an electric vehicle within 30 minutes. FLO charging stations are certified to operate in temperatures as low as -40 degrees and have proven over the years to be durable and reliable in even the harshest weather conditions. FLO maintains a 98% uptime on its network of over 100,000 fast and level 2 EV charging stations deployed at public, private and residential locations across North America.

“By providing remarkably durable and reliable EV chargers, FLO continues to push the boundaries in its effort to connect all communities with EV charging solutions,” added Tremblay. “As climate change intensifies its impact on our planet, the resilience of our electric infrastructure and its capacity to withstand severe weather will only become more vital. FLO is committed to leading the charge.”
