FLO’s SmartDC Fast Charger Obtains ENERGY STAR Certification

One of the first fast chargers in market to be ENERGY STAR certified

QUEBEC CITY, QC – August 15, 2022 – FLO, a leading North American EV charging company, is proud to announce that its SmartDC Direct Current Fast Charger (DCFC) is one of the first electric vehicle (EV) fast chargers to be ENERGY STAR certified in North America. The ENERGY STAR certification is the internationally recognized and trusted mark of high efficiency granted to more efficient and environmentally friendly products, helping consumers make informed decisions in lowering greenhouse gas emissions.

“This certification is an important achievement for FLO and is a major testament to the quality of our fast chargers,” said Louis Tremblay, FLO President and CEO. “Not only are FLO chargers as safe, reliable and durable as EV drivers expect them to be, thanks to the ENERGY STAR certification they now also embody our commitment to offering energy efficient charging solutions.”

ENERGY STAR is a certification provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a United States government agency tasked with environmental protection matters. The certification is recognized in the United States and Canada, both countries where the FLO network is present.

Several Level 2 EV chargers have previously obtained this certification, including the FLO Home G5, FLO Home X5, and FLO CoRe+ chargers.

“Energy efficiency is an important performance consideration for products like DC fast EV chargers,” said Peter Banwell, EPA Energy Star Program Manager. “FLO’s Smart DC charger is among the first products to achieve ENERGY STAR certification and we congratulate them for their leadership in this category. Successful deployment of cutting-edge technologies like this new FLO product are essential to help fight climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”

The ENERGY STAR certification is obtained when products use energy efficiently, such as the power an EV charger consumes in stand-by mode without being connected to a vehicle, when connected to a vehicle but not charging, or during the charging process.
